About Inova
Inova Health System is a not-for-profit health care system based in Northern Virginia that consists of
hospitals and other health services, including emergency and urgent
care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health and blood
donor services, and wellness classes. Governed by a voluntary board
of community members, Inova's mission is to improve the health of the
diverse community it serves through excellence in patient care,
education and research. Inova provides a healthy environment for its
patients, families, visitors, staff and physicians by prohibiting tobacco
use on its campuses.
Inova Health System began in 1956 in response to Northern Virginia's growing need for convenient, accessible health care. Known as the Fairfax Hospital Association, the not-for-profit health care system grew from one hospital to a network of hospitals and other health care services. In the late 1980s, we changed our name to Inova Health System. Many people like the name Inova (pronounced inn-OH-vah) because it seems to suggest both our commitment to innovation in health care and our deep roots in the Northern Virginia community.
Inova is a member of the Alliance for Advancing Nonprofit Healthcare.
